Nokia to release Lumia 800
11/13/2011
Once a major competitor in the smart phone market, Nokia is finally making an effort to re-establish their presence. Wednesday will be an important day for the Finnish cell phone giant as it marks the day that they begin selling their new Lumia 800 model. This will be a point in time when they have an opportunity to gauge how consumers will react to their first significant offering in years.
Nokia has a huge task ahead of itself in entering the smart phone arena against two major players, Apple and Google, who have dominated the smartphone market in recent years.
What gives Nokia a snowball’s chance in this cutting edge market is it’s decision to switch to Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS from Symbian OS. This decision was made by Stephen Elop almost immediately after he took over at Nokia. Elop is a former Microsoft executive. So far Windows mobile devices have not fared well in US Markets.
Apple Rumored to be testing multiple devices for use with Siri
11/07/2011
From the moment Apple introduced Siri, the latest in voice activated personal assistants, one of the hotly debated issues has been a decision made by Apple to include the feature exclusively in the iPhone 4s. Because hackers have already proven that there is technically no reason why Siri would not be compatible with non iPhone 4s devices, many have questioned why not? Previously it has been shown that Siri will in fact work with the iPad and fourth-generation iPod touch.
JailbreakNation says that Apple may in fact be reconsidering their decision about allowing non-iPhone 4s devices to use Siri. According to them Apple is apparently testing an iOS 5 build which will include support for Siri on the iPhone 4. JailbreakNation claims to have received a tip by a source very close to Apple claiming that Apple been testing devices other than the iPhone 4s for use with Siri. Specifically they had mentioned that the iPhone 4 is one of the several devices being tested. Eventually this may mean that we can expect to see a software update that will allow older devices to implement Siri.

iPhone 4S battery drain may be result of Location Services Bug
10/31/2011
Battery drain issues reported by iPhone 4S users may be the result of a problem with the way that iOS 5 processes it’s location services. Switching on your “Setting Time Zone” option might cause the location services to update too frequently resulting in rapid discharge of the device’s Li-Po 1420mAh battery.
Location Services typically does not poll location information unless the device has moved more than a preset minimum distance. Since Time Zone is an internal service the nature of it’s implementation is not known but turning it off seems to restore the battery’s performance in many cases.
